This exceptional Imperial German collection includes two wooden steins of differing sizes, likely crafted from the hub of German propellers. The lids of each have been artistically carved with foliage and the Imperial German air service insignia. To ensure they were safe for drinking, a favorite pastime of WWI aviators, the interiors were sealed with a resin, possibly pine sap. Over time, the sealant has deteriorated, and the larger stein shows a ring of discoloration at the bottom, yet both maintain a remarkable exterior appearance.

The collection also features a photo of two Bavarian soldiers: a Lieutenant pilot and an enlisted observer. Both are adorned with a rare combination of pilot and observer badges, wound badges, and Iron Crosses 1st class. Notably, the dog in the photo sports air service insignia on its collar, adding a unique touch to this already captivating image. This photo, along with the steins, makes for a splendid addition to any Imperial German or aviation collection.

Despite a small crack at the bottom of each stein—possibly a natural occurrence or the result of a fall—the damage is minimal, and they remain in fantastic condition. The photo shows some wear at the bottom, but this does little to detract from its overall beauty.
