This is a British Mark I helmet with a dark camouflage pattern painted for a soldier of the 55th Pioneer Regiment, AEF. The helmet has a multi-color camouflage pattern which mimicks one of the German patterns. There is insignia painted for the 55th Pioneer Regiment which arrived in France in September 1918 and didn't see combat before the armistice was signed.
The helmet has a full liner and chinstrap with the rubber donut still embedded under the wool pad. The chinstrap is still very pliable. Just a phenomenal helmet with a beautiful camouflage pattern.
