WWI US Army M1917 Helmet with three holes and two rings for the Wilmer Eye Shield. Painted on the helmet are darkened colors of greens and yellow with a well painted biplane on the back of the helmet with the numbers 47 painted, presumably for the 47th Aero Squadron. During WWI, the 47th Aero Squadron was an observation squadron that served in France but is not credited with any campaigns. Overall, the helmet remains in great shape with much of the paint remaining. The leather chinstrap is an old replacement likely added shortly after the end of the war.
