This is the uniform of Silver Star & Croix de Guerre recipient First Sergeant Herbert E. Brown, Machine Gun Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division.

Brown was awarded a Silver Star Citation and a French Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star for his actions at Medeah Farm, which occurred during Blanc Mont in October 1918.

The 1917 pattern jacket has a beautiful 9th Infantry MG patch, featuring an Indian head star atop a velvet purple pentagon. There is a very rare 9th Infantry Machine Gun collar disc. The previous owner added a beautiful period Fourragere to the uniform, which is correct as he would've worn one. He has three overseas chevrons for 18-23 months overseas, and a First Sergeant rate on his right sleeve.

Herbert E. Brown first enlisted in the army on February 8th, 1905. He served on and off until reenlisting for the final time on February 21st, 1914. Brown went overseas as the 1st Sergeant of the 9th Infantry Regiment's Machine Gun Company. He served the entire time overseas as its First Sergeant, and is the only man who could have worn this uniform. There is a collector-added identification on the liner as shown.

This is a very rare uniform named to the only 1st Sergeant of the 9th Infantry's Machine Gun Company. It is perfect for any 2nd Division or AEF collector.
