WWI US Army private purchase uniform with vegetable ivory buttons accompanied by an ID tag stamped to John E. Thompson (AKA: Shumar) (ASN: 2468854) who was born and raised in Star Junction, PA and served in the AEF beginning on May 26, 1918 with Btry B 315th Field Artillery, 80th Div until Nov 15, 18 when he reassigned to Btry A, 150th Field Artillery Reg, 42nd Div and returned to the United States with the 150th on April 18, 1919. On the left shoulder of the uniform is an 80th Div patch with chain stitch bullion and embroidered mountains above a red honorable discharge chevron and two overseas stripes. There are many inconsistencies between Shumar‘s service and the uniform to include one too many service stripes, an infantry Co L collar disc instead of artillery, and two campaign stars on the victory ribbon which, according to his record, should be none but the 315th FA participated in the Meuse Argonne Offensive. Two buttons popped off but are held on by two safety pins. There is also a stain on the back.
