Pre-WWII USMC Officers Campaign Hat stamped under the leather sweatband with a 1939 date as well as A. S. Dane which is also stamped on the outside of the sweatband. Accompanying the cap is a rare officers hat cord secured by the original leather chinstrap and an officers EGA. Arnold S Dane was a Jewish Marine from Saleem, Massachusetts and started off as a 2nd lieutenant in June 1937 with the Headquarters Company 3rd Battalion, 7th Reserve Regiment. Towards the end of the war served as the 4th Amphibian Tractor Battalion XO as a Major and likely took part in the recapture of Guam at the minimum. Overall, the hat is in excellent condition with few flaws.
