WWII US Army M1 Helmet liner with complete intact webbing. This helmet liner is named to Major General William W. Eagles of the 45 Infantry Division. Eagles had a long and decorated military career graduating from West Point in 1917. He did not go overseas during WWI however during WWII he was first Assistant Division Commander of the 3rd Infantry division participating in the African invasion in battles in Morocco and Tunis. Also the 3rd Infantry participated in the liberation of Palermo and Messina in Sicily as well as participated in the early states of the Italian Campaign. Eagles was promoted to Major General when he took command of the 45th Infantry Division in November of 1943. While in the 45th Infantry division Eagles participated in Anzio Landings and beachhead and in the subsequent liberation of Rome to which he was awarded a bronze medal of military valor by the Italian government.
