Pre-WWI British Indian Army belt buckle for the 42nd Bengal Light Infantry. This buckle is circa 1840-1860 and has a close hypothetical connection to the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The 42nd Bengal Light Infantry Regiment did take part in the rebellion and mutinied in Saugor, India. When Britain removed the East Indian Trading Companies rule of the area and established the crowns direct rule of the Indian provinces the 42nd Bengal Light Infantry Regiments remaining loyalist where reformed into the 5th Bengal Light Infantry Regiment. The buckle itself is in good but worn condition with the enamel logo still fully intact but wear and oxidation present on most edges of the buckle.
