Circa 1977 Japanese Army officer’s dress uniform with trousers, named to General Hiroomi Kurisu. General Kurisu entered the Japanese Imperial Navy in 1943 as a Judge Advocate and, post-war, defended Japanese service members accused of war crimes. His last position was as the 12th Chief of Staff of the Army Ground Forces, serving from October 20, 1977, until his dismissal on July 27, 1978, following controversial comments about Japan’s right to self-defense. His removal marked the first dismissal of a high-ranking general in Japan since WWII.
