Here is a very rare chance to own a pair of WWI US Army Rubberized M1907 Arctic Overshoes which were worn in France by Wagoner George E. Nau of the Supply Company, 311th Inf Reg, 78th Div and comes with several photocopies provided by the family. These boots are featured in an American Militaria Reference (AMR) article with an excerpt below:
“Initially, the Arctic Overshoe was not authorized for AEF, but it was eventually authorized for issue due to severe weather conditions. However, it proved unsatisfactory, as constant use in mud and water damaged the outer fabric and rotted the cloth covering, rendering the overshoe useless quickly. To address these issues, a new overshoe called the Four Buckle Gaiter was introduced in January 1918, featuring duck fabric on both sides and a chrome leather insole resistant to hobnails’ abrasive action.”
