Grouping includes Flanagan's utility shirt and trousers plus his dress green uniform. The utility shirt has three general stars on each side of collar, Army Aviator wings, Senior Parachutist's Badge with combat jump star, "Flanagan" and US Army all embroidered directly to the jacket. Shirt also has 25th ID combat patch and 6th Army patch on left shoulder. His dress coat features three general stars on each epaulette, U.S. collar insignia, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Senior Parachutist's Badge with combat jump star, Army Aviator wings, Master Republic of South Vietnam jump wings, four unit awards, "Flanagan" nametag and a host of ribbons to include Silver Star, Bronze star with "V", Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal and WWII/Vietnam service ribbons, missing Korean service ribbons for some reason.
Flanagan graduated West Point in 1943 and deployed to the Pacific as an artillery officer, serving in the 457th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion and seeing action up to 1945. Later, he served in Korea as a battalion commander in the 674th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion, 187th RTC. He was the assistant division commander of the 25th ID in Vietnam and his last assignment was commander of the 6th Army.
The grouping comes with a printed biographical sketch of his life, chronological list of promotions, list of military decorations and a B&W photo of Flanagan.
