Cold War era US Air Force olive green flight suit named to Lieutenant General John L. Piotrowski. General Piotrowski is a decorated command pilot twice deployed to South Asia with more than 5000 flying hours including 100 combat missions and 210 combat flying hours. Piotrowski enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and completed the cadet program thereafter being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1954. Piotrowski served as an electronic warfare officer in the 67th Tatical Reconnaissance in South Korea and Japan prior to attending pilot training in 1957. Following pilot training Piotrowski was stationed at Elgin Air Force Base as part of the 1st Air Command Wing in 1961 and in that capacity he served a temporary tour of duty in Southeast Asia from November 1961 to May 1963 flying 120 missions in T-28s and B-26Cs. From there Piotrowski took on several training and testing based roles before returning to Southeast Asia on another temporary tour of duty with the 8th Tactical Fighter Squadron notably introducing the Walleye into the modern combat theater. This uniform was manufactured in 1978 and dates to later in Piotrowskis career when he served as first deputy chief of staff for operations of the Tatical Air Command in Langley Air Force Base, VA in 1982 followed by commander of the 9th Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base SC later that same year. It is noted that Piotrowski was promoted to 4-Star General in 1985 as Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force
The flight suit itself is in good but worn condition with some small holes and loose threads present from general wear with no major tears or staining.
