Cold War era US Army dress green jacket with trousers and undershirt named to the 6th Sergeant Major of the Army William A. Connelly. Sergeant Major Connelly had a distinguished career beginning in 1949 and spanning for over three decades. Rising through the ranks, he held numerous leadership roles, and notably served in the Vietnam war in the 1st Calvary Division. Connelly was known for his dedication to improving the quality of life and training for enlisted soldiers which was evident through his role in enhancing the NCO Education System, which emphasized leadership training and career advancement. Connelly’s most notable position came when he was promoted to Sergeant Major of the Army on July 2, 1979, becoming the sixth person to hold this prestigious position. In this role, he served as the senior enlisted advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army. His tenure in this capacity lasted until 1983 where he is most known for the removal specialist ranking 5 through 7. 

The uniform is in great shape with some notable staining present on the left shoulder. Also the understitching to the collar and the overseas arm bars has some light wear from heavy use. Overall this being a uniform of a Sergeant Major of the Army makes this a very unique grouping and worthy of its place in a museum.
