This is the M1895 jacket of Colonel Conrad Hammond Lanza, who spent decades in the army, fighting fiercely during the Philippine Insurrection & being awarded a Silver Star Citation for his valorous acts, which is placed upon his Philippine Insurrection medal/ribbon. During World War I, Lanza commanded the 19th Field Artillery Regiment of the 5th Division, which saw a great deal of combat. Lanza was promoted and became commander of the 1st Army's Artillery during St. Mihiel & the Meuse-Argonne offensives. Lanza was awarded a Silver Star Citation as well as a Distinguished Service Medal for his work during World War I. His DSM citation reads:
"for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Chief of the Operations Section, Army Artillery, 1st Army, American Expeditionary Forces, Colonel Lanza exhibited a high order of ability and judgment. By his clear tactical conception of complex situations, by his exercise of initiative, by his untiring energy, and by his self-sacrificing devotion to duty, he contributed in a marked degree to the successful employment of all of the artillery of the 1st Army."
The uniform is dated 1915 when Lanza was a Captain. The ribbon bar has his DSM, his U.S. Victory medal with 3 campaign stars and one silver citation star, his Philippine Insurrection medal with one silver citation star, and his Mexican border medal.
The uniform has light moth tracking in the front but it's barely visible. This is a beautiful uniform to a phenomenal individual who played a large part in the success of the AEF's Field Artillery in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the bloodiest offensive the U.S. ever partook in.
