WWI U.S. Army 75mm Victory Lamp, lacquered with a brown finish and stamped “Victory / Nov 11, 1918 / 75 M/M Shell,” accompanied by a 77th Division helmet shell. The original manufacturer’s stamp is present on the bottom, with the last date being June 3, 1919. Around the copper driving band is a touching inscription, echoing the sentiment that WWI was intended to be the war to end all wars: “THEY SHALL BEAT THEIR SWORDS INTO PLOWSHARES, AND THEIR SPEARS INTO PRUNING HOOKS: NATION SHALL NOT LIFT UP SWORD AGAINST NATION, NEITHER SHALL THEY LEARN WAR ANYMORE.” The lamp is still functioning and is turned on most days here at the shop.
