WWII Japanese Navy Gyrocompass with its original lid, painted in navy blue. The brass data plaque on the side features the inscription “短触羅針儀二型,” which translates to “Short-Contact Compass Type 2.” Manufactured by Tokyo Instrument Works in 1945, this gyrocompass was likely used aboard a naval vessel. Two holes on opposite sides are labeled “North” and “South” for directional alignment. The clear plastic piece that covers the glass has come loose and will require reglueing.
